watercolor, prismacolor pencil, pencil

This is a drawing I did after I took a little trip down to the Sunken City in San Pedro, CA. It is definitely a place worth going to explore. For a place that was once a landslide, I was not expecting it to be anything more than a landfill area. In a sense, it kind of is. The once-used-to-be roads and sidewalks are now canvases for graffiti and provide for nooks and crannies for trash to hide. As I walk and explore the area, it is so surprising to find how peaceful and beautiful this area of destruction is. Its interesting to me how a place that may not be anything but decay can also be a place of tranquility and beauty.

overfishing
prismacolor and gouache on paper

This is a piece I did on the subject of overfishing.
"a total of almost 80% of the world's fisheries are fully- to over-exploited, depleted, or in a state of collapse. Worldwide about 90% of the stocks of large predatory fish stocks are already gone."

colored pencil, graphite, pen on Paper

This drawing is based on a question that a mom had submitted to me. It is a question that her daughter once asked her when she was wondering where babies came from.

"Well, does God have a factory that has little baby hands and little baby bodies to send them to their parents?"

"Why is the sea salty?"
watercolor, graphite

pencil and colored pencil on paper

This little drawing is inspired from a childhood memory of my brothers and cousins going around picking up lizards by the tail. The tails would fall off and the lizard would scurry away and we would stand there fascinated.
No, we did not eat the lizard tails.

"what happens when you die?"
watercolor graphite and colored pencil on paper

"Are there aliens in space?"
Collage, graphite, watercolor, colored pencil
I have recently been creating images based on questions that children ask, and some of the things they say. I think the things that children say and questions that they ask are so beautiful and so raw. They really mean it when they ask it, or when they say it. Sometimes what comes out of their mouths is so mater of fact that it leaves you asking yourself why they even said it.
Anyways, hope you guys are enjoying these illustrations!
